Mana Income, Lodestones and Storage

Kingdoms has one resource, mana, in one shared store per player (see mana and building). Unlike Total Annihilation, which settles its economy once a second, Kingdoms works out every player's mana every tick.

Income

Every tick, each of your finished units adds a thirtieth of its income value to your store. A unit that is still being built adds nothing. Your monarch has an income of 10, a Lodestone 10, a Divine Lodestone 20, and most builders and factories 1.

Lodestones and Sacred Stones

A Lodestone's income is multiplied by the rating of the sacred stone it stands on: 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0. Every sacred stone covers 2 by 2 squares of the map, and the Lodestone has to cover all four. The game checks this every tick, and a Lodestone that covers only part of a stone, or none, makes nothing at all.

The same whole-stone rule decides where you may build one. When you place a Lodestone, the game moves it onto the nearest sacred stone where it fits.

Structure On a 1.0 stone On a 1.5 stone On a 2.0 stone
Lodestone, or Creon's Mana Refinery 10 15 20
Divine Lodestone, or Creon's Mana Amplifier 20 30 40

All figures are mana per second. A Lodestone on a 1.5 stone adds 15 × 1/30 = 0.5 mana every tick.

Storage and Overflow

Your storage is the total of the storage values of all your finished units, worked out again every tick. It is never less than 1. At the end of every tick, any mana above your storage is thrown away. The score screen at the end of a battle shows the total as Excess Mana.

Because storage is counted every tick, losing a unit can cost you stored mana at once. If your store is full and an enemy destroys a Lodestone, the 1000 storage it held disappears, and so does any mana above your new limit.

Opening Mana

When a battle starts, each unit you begin with adds its own storage value to your store. A monarch on its own therefore starts you with 5000 mana, its full storage.

Sharing With Allies

Kingdoms shares mana between allies by itself. Once a second, if your store is more than half full, you give away:

(how full your store is − 50%) × 1% of your storage

The amount is split equally between your allies, and each one receives no more than the room left in their store. With storage of 6000 and a full store, you give 0.5 × 1% × 6000 = 30 mana a second, or 15 to each of two allies. At three quarters full you give 15 a second, and at half full or less, nothing.

Worked Example

You start with Elsin alone: 5000 mana in store, a storage of 5000 and an income of 10 a second. Elsin builds a Lodestone on a 1.5 stone. It costs 280 mana and takes Elsin 9.2 seconds (see building). When it is finished, your income rises to 25 a second and your storage to 6000.
