Total Annihilation Cheat Codes

Total Annihilation's cheats are commands typed into the chat box, each starting with +. Every one in version 3.1c is listed here with what it does. Each was checked against the game's own command table, because some older lists get them wrong. The last column says how Open Annihilation differs.

How to Enter a Cheat

  1. Press Enter to open the chat box.
  2. Type the code, for example +atm, and press Enter again.

Codes are not case-sensitive, except the developer passphrase below.

Cheats are not always allowed:

  • Skirmish: always allowed.
  • Campaign: never allowed in the original game. Open Annihilation allows them.
  • Multiplayer: only if the host ticked Cheats in the battle room. The in-game Game Settings screen shows whether cheat codes are allowed.

A cheat only runs on the computer of the player who types it. When it works, the game sends the code to every player's chat, so everyone sees who cheated.

The Cheat Codes

Code What it does Open Annihilation
+atm Adds 1000 metal and 1000 energy to the player you are viewing, normally you. Anything above your storage is lost on the next economy update. Same
+nowisee Turns off line of sight and the unexplored cover, so you see the whole map and every unit. Only your screen changes. Same
+los Turns the line-of-sight fog on or off. The setting is saved. Same
+mapping Turns the black unexplored cover on or off. Same
+radar The minimap shows every unit, whatever your radar covers. Same
+view N Watch the game as player N, with their sight and resource bar. Type +view with your own number to return. Same
+doubleshot Every hit does double damage, for every player's weapons, not only yours. Turned off when a new game starts. Same
+halfshot Every hit does half damage, for every player. With +doubleshot also on, the two cancel out. Same
+meteor Starts a meteor shower now at a random place. +meteor 1 turns recurring meteor storms on and +meteor 0 turns them off. Same
+makeposter Saves a very large screenshot to the screenshots folder: 3200 × 2400 pixels around the camera, or the whole map with +makeposter all. Allowed without cheats
+ai N Switches player N between human and computer control. Cheat (developer mode only in the original)
+control N You take over player N. Cheat (developer mode only in the original)
+unitname Typing a unit's name, such as +armcom, creates that unit at the cursor. Cheat (developer mode only in the original)

Developer Mode

Cavedog left its developers' commands in the game. Typing +now Film Chris Include Reload Assert turns them on. It must be exactly those six words, with the capitals as shown. +now followed by anything else turns developer mode off again.

In the original game, developer mode allows every cheat in any kind of game, even a multiplayer game with cheats switched off. It also unlocks these commands:

Command What it does
+unitname [N] Creates every unit whose name matches, at the cursor, for player N (player 0 if no number is given). Wildcards work.
+ai [N] Switches player N between human and computer control.
+control N You play and view as player N.
+kill [N] Destroys every unit on the map, or every unit of player N.
+iwin / +ilose Destroys one side's units and declares the mission won or lost. Made for two-player missions: in a skirmish as Core, +iwin destroys your own units.
+burnall / +burnone Removes every map feature, or the feature under the cursor. Nothing is set on fire.
+feature name Places a map feature at the cursor.
+treedeath Turns on or off whether features can be damaged by weapons.
+sealevel N Changes the sea level.
+save name Saves the game.

In Open Annihilation the passphrase still turns developer mode on, but it does not unlock cheats. +ai, +control and creating units by name are ordinary cheats there instead.

  • DRDEATH: type it on the single-player menu to turn on a button that lets you play any campaign mission. The choice is saved.
  • *III to *X: type one on the skirmish setup screen to allow 3 to 10 players, using Roman numerals. The game plays a sound to confirm.

Both work in Open Annihilation too.

Commands That Are Not Cheats

These + commands work in every game, including multiplayer games with cheats switched off.

Command What it does
+clock Shows the game clock. Saved.
+noshake Stops explosions shaking the screen.
+lostype Switches between circular and true line of sight.
+showranges Shows weapon range circles.
+shootall Your units also fire at targets they normally ignore, such as buildings without weapons, as the computer player does.
+sharemetal, +shareenergy, +sharemapping, +shareradar Turn sharing with your allies on or off (multiplayer).
+shareall Switches each of the four shares to the opposite setting. It does not turn them all on.
+setsharemetal X, +setshareenergy X Shares only what you have above X.
+give N amount metal Gives player N some of your metal (or energy).
+nometal, +noenergy Sets a player's metal or energy store to an amount (see the note below).
+bigbrother The camera follows idle units in turn.
+switchalt Squad keys with or without the Alt key.
+sing Units sing instead of speaking.
+drop 0 / +drop 1 Turns the dialog for dropping a stalled player off or on.

In the original game +nometal and +noenergy take a player number and an amount, and set that player's store to the amount, with no cheat check. With your own number this fills your storage in any game. In Open Annihilation these two commands run on every player's computer, so everyone sees them.

Common Mistakes in Older Lists

  • +shareall does not "share everything". It flips each share, so shares that were on are turned off.
  • +burnall does not burn trees. It removes every feature from the map.
  • +shootall and the share commands are not cheats. They work in any game.
  • Typed commands are never run on other players' computers. Only the cheat's announcement is sent.
